This Merckx is an absolute gem. It's the pinnacle of early 80's cycling. The frame is made from Reynolds 531 and is fitted with a complete Campagnolo Super Record Groupset. Most of the parts have also been pantographed, which adds a lot of flare! The serial number (A5R E2507) indicates the bike is a 55cm and made with Reynolds tubing. It also indicates the bike was made between 1981 and 1984. The groupset is dated 1980.
The bike has been gone through but shows sign of use. The frame has a few paint chips but no dents, bends, or cracks. The hubs have been polished and serviced along with the rims, however I would recommend keeping these wheels as show pieces. The tires have not been glued on. The rear wheel has some dishing problems. If you intend to ride this bike, which you should, throw on some 6 speed clinchers and you're set. These old Mavics are beautiful, but they have lived their life. Bottom bracket and headset have been serviced. New cables and housing have been installed. Frame was polished and all parts were given a good clean. New chain, brake hoods, and Benotto bar tape!
