I bought this Gios from the original owner who purchased it in Germany in the early 80's. Her husband had an identical version, but that bike was left overseas when they moved back to the US. She told stories about all the adventures she went on while riding this bike. She recalled descending steep mountain passes and while at high speed, taking her hands off the bars and putting them behind her back. She only recently upgraded to a newer bike as of summer 2024. It was an emotional good-bye, but I promised I would do my best to preserve this bike.
The Gios Super Record is one of the most iconic vintage bikes ever! It was pictured in, "A Sunday In Hell," a famous movie showcasing the intensity and drama of the 1976 Paris-Roubaix. Team Brooklyn was sponsored by Gios from 1973-77.
This bike is from the early 80's and is a time capsule. It's been completely gone through and brought back as close to its former glory as possible while maintaining its original paint and parts. She swapped some of the parts to make the ride less aggressive, such as a shorter stem, clincher wheels, and a more plush saddle. Luckily, she had kept all of the original parts which she included, and is how you see the bike pictured now. New brake and shift cables have been installed as well as new bar tape. I purchased a set of shelf-wear Wolber sew ups, but after years of sitting around, the rubber decided to give in the rear which does not hold air. The front tire still holds air and both rims were cleaned up and are ready for other tires to be glued on. No dents, bends, or cracks. It has some paint chips but overall the paint looks great for its age. Decals also look pretty good. The Regina chain is about 4 links too short. If you want to ride this bike hard, I would recommend installing a newer chain and some fresh tires.
