The Nishiki Road Compe of the 1970’s is an absolute hidden gem. It doesn’t get the attention it deserves. There are many details on the frame that are stunning. The way the seat stay is one piece and wraps around the post is really something. The chrome lugs and the half chromed rear triangle is complimented by a very vibrant lime green and is all separated by metallic gold pinstriping. That, with the gold Mavic OR10 rims gives this bike incredible contrast and appeal.
This bike has been refurbished. All the bearings have been serviced (apart from the hubs). New brake and shift cables have been fitted as well as some new housings. There are some paint chips on the frame, but all the decals look great! The chrome is also in great condition with no pitting or scratches. No dents or cracks either. One of the teeth on the Campagnolo freewheel has chipped (see photo). The rear wheel also doesn’t have its Mavic sticker anymore. The original Clement tubulars don’t hold air, but I couldn’t bring myself to take them off (they’re not making any more, anytime soon) – so to make it ridable, new tubulars would have to be installed. Apart from these things, the bike is great!
