It's always fun to have a frame with a history behind it! Huffy acquired Raleigh in 1982 and would change hands again in 1986. The high end track frames that were being built by Huffy during that time were made in Dayton, Ohio by master builders Mike Melton and Steve Bishop. They were responsible for the design and production of the bikes ridden in the 1984, 1986, and 1988 Olympics. There are no markings on this frame that would indicate who it was made by. I have a theory as to the history of this frame, but I can't confirm anything.
I bought this frame in a bulk purchase from the friend of a vendor who buys storage units. There were a few other track frames and wheels, along with a Gios track fork with the name, "David Lindsay," written multiple times on the steer tube. After searching the name, I found an article that was published on September 2, 1986 from a Colorado Springs newspaper that discussed David Lindsey and Kit Kyle winning the silver medal that year in the tandem sprint. Since these frames were only made to spec and not for mass production and given the fact that there is a David Lindsey who rode professionally on the velodrome, I would assume this frame was made by either Mike or Steve for David Lindsey, or someone on team USA. But who knows for sure!!
The frame is in good overall condition. No dents, bends, or cracks. The paint and decals have seen better days, but most of the scratches and chips were filled in. The threads at the top of the steer tube are also damage. A headset can still be screwed on and off, but there is some damage. Please see photos!
